This is one about a big box store
that pushed out a few local stores, then locked it's doors one
day. Only an act of the Department of Labor forced them to give
the employees their final check. (It closed the day before their
payday) A few months later another store that denied any
association with the previous one moved in to the same spot and
business as usual. IMHO, someone got out of paying taxes BIG
TIME, but as the right wing demagoge Micheal Savage says "That's just
one man's opinon"
It almost got published, but the editor feared a ruinous lawsuit.
He's really good at standing up for his beliefs, but with the right
wing takeover you have to prioritze.
BTW-Any parasite corporation wants to sue me, be warned I know a number
of lawyers
who'd LOVE to fish for money from you in terms of "Countersuits" and
"Quality of
Life" and "Human rights violations" lawsuits. You won't get a
dime and you might give
me a good cut of millions.
BTW- I was there to investigate the close. As a freelance
cartoonist/journalist I try to be at as many scenes of local interst as
possible be they new stores opening up or "Rotten.com" gory
accidents. I literally DID see a man get arrested. He had
bought a $3000 top of the line system (heh, I think a P300) and spent
$500 on an 'extended warranty'. It DIED on him the very next
day. He was mad that they just handed him out a pamphlet with a
number to call on it that (from what I've heard) led him through a half
hour of ballon help to finally say they weren't going to honor the
warranty. Like I said it took the Department of Labor to give the
employees thier final check, but the police arrived in MINUTES to
arrest him.
I say, the state should have CONFISCATED the entire store's contents
and then held a low price auction to distribute the merchandise.
By the time they got the actions overturned, there would be an empty
building full of dust they'd still owe property taxes on.
But, sadly, things like that don't happen in real life to big
business...
