The
Sad downsizing
of Red T. Parrot
In my town for the better part of three decades, there was a small pet
store in the local mall called humurously enough "Animal Farm".
They were pioneers in marketing and animal rights, selling puppies and
kitties from registered breeders and the pound LONG before the 'media'
mentioned puppy farm cruelty. They also sold things like Mantis
Husks for gardens. One feature I remembered since I was a kid was
the owner's personal pet, Red the Parrot. For years he stood
tolerating all the customers he brought in, learning a few words and
ignoring the dirty ones adolescents tried to teach to him. He was
never for sale, though parrots are much greater commitments than
hamsters or small lizards, so that is a good thing.
Anyways, like a lot of stores there it was closed overnight to make
room for chain stores. There used to be a place called "Old Town
Pizza" that sold a slice of pizza, a cookie, and a soft drink for
$1.50, but from what I heard their rent was quintripled overnight
(factor of FIVE, people) as a $2.50 a slice alone pizza place was
moving in. There is no pet store at the mall now, but they closed
just as a major chain opened.
Comments?

sorry, folks, tons of spam in my inbox
these days. Half is viruses, the other half
porn that'd make de-sade puke and amost
ALL of it masquerading under such keywords as
"Hi", "The Party last night", "At the Office",
etc. I like 'mailto' links, but I'd better play it safe
for awhile
