Destruction of the statues
by the Taliban.
(& follow-up)

In Afghanistan, the group known as the Taliban has destroyed two giant statues of Siddartha (along with museam contents) for religious reasons involving a debated interpetation of Islam and “Idolatry”.  This has caused much concern for National Geographic, ruin for the country’s tourist industry, tested the faith of buddhists, and been little concern to anyone else.

Why indeed should we care about a bunch of stupid "towel heads" blowing up their country’s tourist industry?  It’s major source of income besides the export of Pistachio nuts and HEROIN?  Siddartha himself didn’t want statues.  Why would a man who preached that suffering was caused by desire and that to “overcome suffering one must overcome desire” DESIRE statues built of himself?  Especially that F*cking big!?

Stupid, loony, but what right do we “outsiders”, we “infidels” have to even consider thinking about interfering with their practice of their religion?

But, despite offers to pay money to the impoverished nation to allow the statues to LITERALLY be MOVED out of that country, they have been destroyed.

The Statues are no more.  Enough ordinance, left over from the Mujahadeen days reduced them to rubble.

Remember?  When the USA poured all sorts of weapons into that country to “Fight Communism?”  When the CIA taught them combat, and Reagan himself called them “The Moral Equivalent of our Founding Fathers”?  EXCUSE ME, Ronnie, but I strongly doubt George Washington or Benjamin Franklin went around with vials of ACID to throw in the faces of women they found “immoral”.

So what matters anymore?
Just rubble.  Doubless more squaking for more food aid which will be sent, despite plenty of poor at home and a bandit gang government who will just trade it to other neighboring nations (Russia, Iraq, Turkey?) for more weapons.

Why does this matter?
Don’t they have a right to blow up stuff that does not agree with their religion?
How does this affect mankind?
Why should it be of any concern beyond FIFTEEN MINUTES!?

Imagine, if you will, an Aboriginal tribesman placing his hand on a rock.  He then takes some paint mixture into his mouth and sprays it all over his hand.  When he removes his hand, the outline remains.  Some of those paintings go back over a million years.  It is no more or less than saying "I was here, I have lived!"

Those statues are not so much a “pro Bhuddism” statement as a testimony to the people that lived there.  Centuries before, these people lived in that area.  For a time, infinitely brief in the cosmic scale, they created, worshipped, fought, lived and died.  The statues (and other museam artifacts the Taliban destroyed) are remnants, fingerprints.
Like those self same paintings, they are the echo, the shadow of those before.

The people that did this are not “Freedom Fighters”.  They are murderers, toruturers, madmen who see nothing but their own goals, and if history itself stands in their way, they will erase it.  This is a crime against humanity.  It is the death of history, the murder of memory.  These anti-life fanatics who will use this as a stepping stone to greater crimes against humanity.  If they will literally erase history to enforce their narrow views, what matters more murder?

They must be stopped before they hurt someone else.  Hey, it could even be the UNITED STATES that gets hit by them sooner or later…
But what am I talking about?  I'm probably wasting my breath, no one in the US will care about this beyond 15 minutes.  They'll probably think it can never affect them.
